000119 02-patent-reform-groups_wmp_a_16.wma 000000 ERIK SCHMIDT: So how does the Patent Busting Project fit into the larger patent reform community? 000004 Is there a relationship with PubPat or any of the other entities out there that are working on patent reform? 000010 JASON SCHULTZ: Yes, I see the Patent Busting Project as part of the overall effort to try and bring the patent system back to rationality, 000019 especially in the software Internet field. 000021 It's really gotten out of control on some levels. 000025 But the Patent Busting Project is not meant to be a solution to the patent problems. 000029 There are lots of problems with the patent system. 000032 But, in a similar way to the Public Patent Foundation, it tries to target individual harms that certain patents are doing. 000041 And it also tries to help show examples of where the patent system has gone wrong. 000045 Many of the patent reform debates talk in broad sweeping language about general trends or vague statistics. 000054 And we wanted to bring some names and faces and actual stories to the debate. 000100 And say, look, whatever you want to say is going on a systematic level, 000104 here are some very specific concrete examples of harm that is happening to people that needs to be remedied. 000111 And we're trying to remedy on a case-by-case basis, but we're trying to make a larger case for reform by pointing to concrete examples.
